Making a gift at death to help protect and preserve our natural environment is easy. You can do so by naming CWRLT as a beneficiary in your Will or Living Trust, or by designating CWRLT as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement plan.
Name CWRLT in your Will or Living Trust:
This is done the same as with any other beneficiary, by naming CWRLT as a beneficiary in the Will or Living Trust document. Here are some examples:
I give the sum of $ ____________________ to Couderay Waters Regional Land Trust, Inc., a non-profit tax-exempt organization whose address is P.O. Box 13097, Hayward WI 54843
OR
I give ____% of the residue of my estate to Couderay Waters Regional Land Trust, Inc., a non-profit tax-exempt organization whose address is P.O. Box 13097, Hayward WI 54843
OR
The trustee shall distribute $_____________ (or ____% of the remaining net trust assets) to Couderay Waters Regional Land Trust, Inc., a non-profit tax-exempt organization whose address is P.O. Box 13097, Hayward WI 54843
We will be happy to work with your attorney/estate planner in drafting the appropriate provision to meet your goals.

Designate CWRLT as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement plan:
Conservation-minded citizens are encouraged to leverage their retirement investments by including CWRLT as a beneficiary on their traditional IRAs, 401(k)s, 403(b)s, or other tax-deferred retirement investments. If you have unused tax-deferred retirement remaining at your death, your heirs who inherit those funds will pay not only any applicable estate taxes, but also (unlike other types of inheritances) income taxes.
For example, if a person leaves $25,000 from an IRA to a beneficiary, and assuming the beneficiary is in the 25% federal income tax bracket with an approximate 5% state income tax bracket, the net benefit the beneficiary is only $17,500, minus any applicable estate tax. On the other hand, if CWRLT were designated as the beneficiary on the IRA, the entire amount would go for conservation purposes, free of any income or estate tax. As a tax-exempt charitable organization, CWRLT does not pay income tax and gifts it receives at death qualify for the estate tax charitable deduction.
Naming CWRLT as a beneficiary on all or part of your tax-deferred retirement assets is a good way to leverage your hard-earned dollars and help preserve our environment for future generations.
